Peacocks are gorgeous exotic birds native to the Asia Pacific countries. They come in many varieties. India Blues are popular and Green peacocks from Thailand Burma and Malaysia regions are magnificant. You can also find beautiful white and purple colors that are less popular. They are easy to keep and feed on mixed game feed used for turkeys or poultry.
They are large birds and need a large open area with a shelter from the wet and cold at night. An open shed with perches four feet off the ground works well. This helps keep their long plumage off the ground. The long tail feathers take two the three years to grow. They are a slow moving people friendly bird.
We experienced one peacock who flew off but returned the next morning landing on our roof with heavy feet.
Peacocks have been known to live for 40 to 50 years.
